The French electropop band, Yelle, came to Vancouver at took over the Imperial on a Monday night to a lively crowd that totally danced the night away to their fun beats. Not knowing much about the band before walking in I was curious of what I should set as my expectations and was happy to find that those expectations were well met and kind of blown away.
Comparisons are such a terrible thing to do as they are so subjective and rarely do any sort of justice, but just to give some frame of reference… there were many of the sounds that were reminiscent to a Prozac riddled pop version of Die Antwoord without all the oddities and more focus on the danceable beats. Writing this irks me as it really doesn’t give the proper sense, but… YouTube the sounds and see for yourself. Better yet, do as I did and just go to their next show and be in for a treat.
Opening for Yelle was Vancouver based Wmnstudies which I only managed to catch the last few songs of and will ensure that the next time I see them on the bill that I show up a bit earlier for to get that full feel.
